Sun in sand summer vacationHappiness is an inside jobDearest BFMs,

For most of us summer has finally arrived! When we are kids summer is a fantastic time to really play! No school, just play and hang out! When we “grow up” things tend to be very different. For most of us, even though the warm weather beckons us, there is a lot less playing during the summers.

I have always found it pretty obscene how “vacation” time is considered a luxury. It’s almost as if “normal” is working and taking time to re-charge is only for those who have seniority. We all know that when we are depleted we do half-hearted work so why this game?

Living over in Europe you definitely see the difference! People here still work but they usually have a much better life/work balance. With the expansion of American ideals and the economic situation here that has shifted a bit, but it is still very balanced.

summer vacationSo when we are in school we have lots of vacation time, lots. Besides the random holidays that working (outside the house) adults get too, there are also the one-two weeks off for winter and then again at spring break. There is also time off for Thanksgiving and of course, the much coveted SUMMER VACATION. I have to admit that because I was a student for such a long time (… if you include my preschool, undergrad, MBA I was in school for twenty-one years! That is almost half my life!) that I found it almost impossible to be locked up in a cubicle with no outside air for the ENTIRE YEAR with the exception of one or two weeks off a year!!!!! I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks that might be somewhat unbalanced.

Americans, in general, accumulate vacation time to use one magical day that never comes. Think about that. Think of how that affects the whole country that individuals are not taking care of themselves. No judgement just noticing

I love my jobSo, today, I bring up the sticky subject of your JOB. I know there are lots of people out there without jobs but that kind of thinking is pretty fear-based. It is important to be grateful for what you have… absolutely… but, as the posted quote in yesterday’s Butterfly Moms group on Facebook read… “You can’t find happiness at the end of your journey if you don’t bring it with you all along.”

Is your job feeding your soul or sucking you dry? If you are feeling icky around this just let yourself feel it… notice you don’t die. Notice that those feelings last a lot longer if you block them, and if the ickies are coming up now, chances are that you have been blocking them. The fastest way to get sick is to block your flow. You know this. I’m not telling you anything new. You might just have been burying it… that has consequences even if you pretend it does not. No matter how icky it feels I invite you to let it wash over you and let it leak out into the grass. Imagine all that “shit” fertilizing all the plants around you. You’re holding all that in serves NO ONE and NO THING!

JOB1If you think about your JOB and you start feeling happy then it is not just giving you money, it is also feeding your soul! This is possible for all of us… just need to 1) Notice  2) Strongly Visualize  3)Feel How Good It Feels  4) Let It Go (knowing you have set the wheels in motion)… Repeat at least daily… and watch what happens! ❤

Summer is a time to get lighter and happier. The sun is shining. The days are longer. It is a wonderful time to let go of what is not working and so that what is meant to come in will come in!

ButterflyMoms is a community of people who realize they are souls first and human being second. They want to explore more about themselves, to find out what makes them happy and how they can lead a life of purpose. It is simply about FEEDING YOUR SOUL. Although it has the name “MOMS” in the title it is more about being nurturing to your own transformation, as the butterfly is to its own metamorphosis. This community is led by Maria Salomão-Schmidt whose transformation was ignited by the birth and death of her BELOVED thirteen month old daughter Sophia (Sophalicious), the original butterfly.

*Every Friday Morning, as a way of honoring her daughter Sophia’s soul, Maria writes the weekly BUTTERFLYMOMS BLOG. Hundreds of people read it every week to feed their souls. Maria started writing the blog in May 2009 and has written EVERY Friday since. Maria is a Reiki master and every time you read it you are showered with healing love.  Tell your friends… and spread the love!!! FEED YOUR SOUL!!!!!

Use your voice…

I invite you add your comments below about what your dream is and how you can do one thing to move it forward. This whole process is about connection and moving forward.

  1. Great writing and a great job putting the career/job thing in the proper perspective. We all need to work but what you take away from it is so important.

  2. hello maria,
i’m sure you do not remember me but i met you many years ago at the prana center. i was expecting my first child and was taking roberta’s prenatal class. in the last nine years, we’ve been dealing with two children with special needs and a very busy rambunctious two year old. i quit a job i loved last august when we decided to put our older boys in the holliston school system (we live in millis). they have been phenomonal in helping our boys. at any rate, this has left me in a place where i now struggle to find the energy to take care of myself. i need to get back to yoga, take a walk, do something for myself. i have also been asked what i do spiritually for myself. the answer is, currently nothing. my goal this summer is to remedy this. i came upon your blog and find it very inspiring. thanks for sharing your journey ❤
    best to you, cathy g.
